6x6x6 V-Cube (original)

A regular 6x6x6 V-Cube has an edge of 69mm. On each face it has 16 squares of 11 x 11 mm. It also has 4 squares of 12.5 x 12.5 mm and 16 rectangles of 12.5 x 11 mm. I wondered if it would be possible to modify the puzzle so all squares were the same like on a 3x3x3, 4x4x4 etc. This would then be a true, properly proportioned 6x6x6 Cube. Not a very exciting mod but something I wanted to try.
In July 2009 I used a Dremel to remove 1.5mm from each side of a 6x6x6 V-Cube. This in theory would make what I wanted. However I was a little surprised when some of the cubies started to change shape. The resulting puzzle actually has less cubic cubies than the original and It turned out to be a lot of work for virtually nothing. Oh well, you live and learn.
